GOLD STRIKE CASINO RESORT COMPLETES
MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR TRANSFORMATION WITH UNVEILING OF NEW CASINO
New Look and Layout of Gaming Space Tops Off a Series of Resort Enhancements
TUNICA, Miss. - Jan. 5, 2011 — MGM Resorts International's (NYSE: MGM) Gold Strike Casino Resort has just completed its multi-million dollar multi-year property transformation with the unveiling of its upgraded 50,000-square-foot casino and Stage 2 Bar. The casino features contemporary custom-designed flooring, fresh modern wall coverings, air quality enhancements and a completely reconfigured state-of-the-art gaming floor. The spacious new casino tops off four years of capital improvements that has included a complete remodel of the resort's 1,200 guest rooms and suites, 30,000-square-foot convention center, Atrium Café, Courtyard Buffet, high-limit gaming area and hotel lobby.
"In an economy when many companies are remaining static or downsizing, we continue to make capital investments in our resorts and remain focused on improving the guest experience," said George P. Corchis, Jr., MGM Resorts International's president and chief operating officer of regional operations. "Gold Strike's dramatic transformation is the largest renovation and remodeling project in the resort's history. These investments in the Tunica market will boost tourism and have a positive impact on the local economy."
The stylish new casino layout creates a spacious atmosphere with wider aisles, improved sightlines, sleek new columns that enlarge walkways and improve traffic flow, and additional space between slot machines to provide more shoulder and elbow room for guests.
The casino's comfortable, relaxed setting is coupled with the latest technology. The new gaming floor boasts 53 table games and 1,236 slot machines and more of the newest, most popular high-tech video games. More penny machines have been added, including a chance to win a 2011 Cadillac on a special slot machine bank setup with the car on display. For added entertainment and information, guests can view more than 50 LCD televisions and monitors located throughout the property, as well as an expansive new 30' x 40' outdoor digital LED display at the resort's entrance.
The property makeover includes a refreshed Stage 2 Bar, located on the ground floor of the casino. Gold Strike's centerpiece bar provides free live entertainment four nights per week and has been upgraded with all new equipment including a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system.
Interior designers Jeanne Starling and Joyce Chester with MGM Resorts International's Design Group led the renovation project and used an elegantly-festive color palette of cobalt and turquoise blues, ruby reds and sea foam greens to create a perfect balance of modern and traditional design. "The inspiration for the new casino design came from the multicolor swirling custom-designed carpet pattern, influenced by the forms found in ornamental ironwork," Starling said. "To compliment the floor coverings, Gold Strike's wall coverings feature a large neutral curvilinear pattern that is in the same spirit as the carpet design. The classical style columns were simplified in detail as well, bringing a more relaxed and fun aura to the casino floor."
Gold Strike's transformation began more than four years ago with the complete remodel of the guest rooms and the addition of new suites, a renovation of the convention center, and an upgrade to exterior facilities including the parking garage, lighting and outdoor signage.
During the renovation and remodeling project, 50 new luxury suites were added to the resort's floor plan and two new "super suites" now occupy Gold Strike's top floor. All Gold Strike rooms are now equipped with wireless internet, LCD flat-screen televisions and feature custom walnut furniture designed by the MGM Resorts International Design Group. All rooms have marble baths and chic furnishings throughout that reveal the signature luxury guests expect from MGM Resorts International. Mississippi artist John Whitt was commissioned by Gold Strike to create a unique stained glass sculpture that is now the focal point of the remodeled lobby area.
The convention center has new furniture, new carpeting and new wall coverings. An elegant 10,000-square-foot grand ballroom, a large pre-function area and numerous auxiliary meeting rooms - ranging in size from 400 to 1,100 square feet - can accommodate meetings, receptions and conferences with up to 800 attendees. All conference and convention center rooms are now equipped with state-of-the-art audio/video equipment.
Gold Strike has a wide range of restaurant offerings, including the award-winning Chicago Steakhouse, The Atrium Café, Courtyard Buffet, Gold's Deli, Pizzeria Fresh, Burger City and room service to meet the needs of hungry visitors most other times of the day or night. With a variety of restaurants, an entertainment facility and Vegas-style casino floor all under one roof, guests do not need to leave the Gold Strike once they arrive.
"Gold Strike has always been considered one of Tunica's premier resorts," said George Goldhoff, general manager of Gold Strike Casino Resort. "But we know these facility enhancements, combined with our innovative service culture and new customer loyalty program M life, will exceed guest expectations and truly transform the Gold Strike experience."
